Your van and driver
How it works, wherever you are.
01
What a van and driver is
A van, a driver, a fixed price – and no bidding.
A van and driver is the middle ground between hiring a van yourself and booking a removals firm. You don't drive, you don't lift anything you don't want to, and you don't wait for three quotes. You tell us what's moving and where, we give you one price, and a vetted driver with the right size van does the job. Most people use one for the things that fall between a car boot and a full house move: a sofa from a seller, a student's room, a flat across town, a garage of rubbish to the tip.
02
Van and driver versus man and van
Same idea, better promise.
"Man and van" is what people search for; it usually means one person with their own van, quoted on the phone, paid in cash, and you hope they turn up. A van and driver from us is the same job with the parts that go wrong taken out: the price is fixed online before you book, the driver is insured and checked, the arrival hour is chosen by you, and you've paid by card so nobody is negotiating on the doorstep. If you've been let down by a man with a van, this is the version that doesn't let you down.
03
What fits in each van
We measure in wheelie bins. One bin's worth is about eight bin bags.
Picture a wheelie bin. One bin's worth is a few boxes and bags. Two is a fridge or a washing machine with room to spare. Four is a room. A one-bed flat is about half a van (7 bins' worth); a two-bed flat fills a van (10); a two-bed house usually goes in one full load (20). The item builder adds it up as you go, so you see the van size and the price before you've finished.
04
How the price works
Fixed prices, the same everywhere.
A move's price depends on how much is moving, not where you live. A wheelie bin's worth is £69 anywhere in England; a full load is £349 in Salisbury, Sheffield or Southend. The first 10 miles between pickup and drop-off are included; after that it's £1.80 a mile, worked out from real road distance and shown before you pay.
Tip runs have their own prices, with no charge for the distance: from £70 for one small item, £80 for a wheelie bin emptied, £99 to £519 for a load (from a wheelie bin's worth to a full load) and from £599 for a whole house clearance. The recycling centre's charge is always included.
Weekends cost the same as weekdays. Nothing is added on the day.
05
Who turns up
Checked, insured, rated – and paid properly.
Every driver is an independent partner who has shown us their licence, their hire-and-reward insurance, goods-in-transit and public liability cover, and their right to work, before they're offered a single job. They keep 85% of what you pay, so good drivers stay. After the job you can rate them and leave a tip, and their rating decides who gets offered work first.
06
Lifting, stairs and awkward things
Two people when the job needs them, at no extra cost.
We decide from what you're moving: a sofa, a wardrobe, a fridge, or a medium load and up gets two people, and that's already in the price. There's nothing to choose and nothing extra to pay. Tell us about stairs, lifts and parking when you book and the driver plans for it; there's no stairs charge, no waiting charge and no surprise for a heavy sofa.
