Van work in London.

The town, the roads and the jobs.

Driving a van in London

Set up for van work here and you are based in the country’s biggest market for moves of every size, with the City of Westminster the nearest main town and just 2.6 miles away in around 19 minutes, and the City of London only 2.2 miles by road in about 15 minutes, so most jobs start close and build out across well-known neighbours. From London you can reach Kensington and Chelsea at 3 miles in around 20 minutes, Southwark at 3.4 miles in about 21 minutes, and Islington at 3.8 miles in roughly 25 minutes, making house and flat moves to and from the towns nearby practical to schedule throughout the week. Drivers also keep busy heading to Camden at 4.4 miles in around 30 minutes, Tower Hamlets at 4.9 miles in about 29 minutes, Hackney at 5.2 miles in roughly 34 minutes, Hammersmith and Fulham at 5.8 miles in around 33 minutes, and Wandsworth at 6.2 miles in about 33 minutes, where customers often call for single items such as a sofa, a bed, a wardrobe or a washing machine. Flat moves within the town itself are frequent, especially for small loads that suit a nimble van, and there is steady demand for tip runs of old furniture, garden waste and clutter to the recycling centre when people clear rooms, prepare for redecorating or finish a tenancy. The compact travel times between these nearby towns mean you can group jobs efficiently, from a morning flat move in London to an afternoon collection in Southwark or Islington, with a late drop in Camden or Hammersmith and Fulham. Whether it is a couple of rooms shifting across to the City of Westminster, a wardrobe picked up in Hackney for delivery to Tower Hamlets, or a weekend declutter run to the recycling centre, the mix here rewards punctual planning and tidy loading so you can turn short hops into a full day of varied work.

Drivers say.

We've just opened in London.

Be the first London driver.

Reviews from our partners appear here as they come in – no made-up quotes, ever. Early drivers get the first pick of jobs while we grow.

Good to know.

What drivers ask before they apply.

Am I employed by Van & Driver?+

No. You're self-employed, or you run a company. You choose every job. We send a statement each week you can hand to your accountant.

Can I bring a mate for the big jobs?+

Yes. When a job needs two people the price already covers it, and you keep the same 85%. Bring your own mate, or one of our drivers' mates can join you.

What insurance do I need, exactly?+

Hire and reward insurance for your van, goods in transit and public liability. A company with staff needs employers' liability too, and you need a waste carrier licence for tip runs. Upload them on your phone: we check them once and remind you before they run out. No waste carrier licence? We can sort one for you.

How fast am I paid after a job?+

Every Friday, straight to your bank, for jobs finished by Thursday midnight. No invoices to chase.

What if the customer changes the date?+

We ask you first. If the new time suits you, the job stays yours. If it doesn't, it goes to another driver and nothing counts against you.

Do you cover outside London?+

Yes. You set how far you'll travel from home, and jobs within that distance come to you first. We're taking on drivers in every town we cover.

How do I apply?+

Tap Apply to Van & Driver on vananddriver.co.uk/drive or your town's page, for example /drive/salisbury. It takes a minute: your name and mobile, the code we text you, then the jobs you want and your town. You're in. The rest is a checklist on your phone, in any order: your van (just type the reg), your documents, bank details, when you work, a photo and the agreement. Most drivers finish in ten minutes.
