Your van and driver in Amersham
How it works, what it costs and who turns up.
01
What a van and driver is
A van, a driver, a fixed price – and no bidding.
A van and driver is the middle ground between hiring a van yourself and booking a removals firm.
02
Van and driver versus man and van
Same idea, better promise.
"Man and van" is what people search for; it usually means one person with their own van, quoted on the phone, paid in cash, and you hope they turn up.
03
What fits in each van
We measure in wheelie bins. One bin's worth is about eight bin bags.
Picture a wheelie bin. One bin's worth is a few boxes and bags. Two is a fridge or a washing machine with room to spare. Four is a room.
04
How the price works
Fixed prices, the same everywhere.
A move's price depends on how much is moving, not where you live. A wheelie bin's worth is £69 anywhere in England; a full load is £349 in Salisbury, Sheffield or Southend.
05
Who turns up
Checked, insured, rated – and paid properly.
Every driver is an independent partner who has shown us their licence, their hire-and-reward insurance, goods-in-transit and public liability cover, and their right to work, before they're offered a single job.
06
Lifting, stairs and awkward things
Two people when the job needs them, at no extra cost.
We decide from what you're moving: a sofa, a wardrobe, a fridge, or a medium load and up gets two people, and that's already in the price. There's nothing to choose and nothing extra to pay.
07
Booking, changing and cancelling
Two minutes to book. Change it yourself up to 48 hours before.
Book online for today (until 3pm; after that, tomorrow from 1pm) or any day up to about six months ahead, by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
08
Same day? Yes, until 3pm.
Today, if you book by 3pm.
Book before 3pm and you can pick today: the earliest one-hour arrival is the hour after next (book at 10:20 and it's 12 to 1), if a partner's free. After 3pm, the earliest is 1pm tomorrow.
About Amersham
Amersham at a glance
Split across the HP6 and HP7 postcode districts, Amersham sits just over a mile from the Chesham Household Recycling Centre and around two miles from Little Chalfont, with Chesham itself a short run further on. Van & Driver is coming soon to Amersham, bringing together van with driver and man and van services for people moving house, clearing a property, delivering furniture or making a tip run. The idea is straightforward: you book a van and driver at a fixed price, and the move itself is carried out by a local partner driver rather than a call centre or a faceless national firm. Once live, the service here will cover house removals, student moves, storage runs and next-day van moves, as well as commercial courier work and marketplace deliveries for anyone buying or selling larger items locally. Amersham's position near Little Chalfont, Chesham and Bovingdon, and within reach of stations at Great Missenden and Beaconsfield, makes it a useful base for short local hops as well as longer trips out towards High Wycombe or Hemel Hempstead, where several storage centres are located. When Van & Driver launches in the town, residents will be able to see fixed prices for common routes and van sizes before arranging a booking, without needing to negotiate rates or guess at costs in advance. For now, this page sets out what to expect and how the service will work once partner drivers are confirmed to cover Amersham and its surrounding villages.
Amersham had 17,377 people at the 2021 Census. The council's nearest recycling centre is Chesham Household Recycling Centre, 1.1 miles away; a tip run with us goes to a licensed recycling centre, with the disposal in the price.
