Your van and driver in Borehamwood
How it works, what it costs and who turns up.
01
What a van and driver is
A van, a driver, a fixed price – and no bidding.
A van and driver is the middle ground between hiring a van yourself and booking a removals firm.
02
Van and driver versus man and van
Same idea, better promise.
"Man and van" is what people search for; it usually means one person with their own van, quoted on the phone, paid in cash, and you hope they turn up.
03
What fits in each van
We measure in wheelie bins. One bin's worth is about eight bin bags.
Picture a wheelie bin. One bin's worth is a few boxes and bags. Two is a fridge or a washing machine with room to spare. Four is a room.
04
How the price works
Fixed prices, the same everywhere.
A move's price depends on how much is moving, not where you live. A wheelie bin's worth is £69 anywhere in England; a full load is £349 in Salisbury, Sheffield or Southend.
05
Who turns up
Checked, insured, rated – and paid properly.
Every driver is an independent partner who has shown us their licence, their hire-and-reward insurance, goods-in-transit and public liability cover, and their right to work, before they're offered a single job.
06
Lifting, stairs and awkward things
Two people when the job needs them, at no extra cost.
We decide from what you're moving: a sofa, a wardrobe, a fridge, or a medium load and up gets two people, and that's already in the price. There's nothing to choose and nothing extra to pay.
07
Booking, changing and cancelling
Two minutes to book. Change it yourself up to 48 hours before.
Book online for today (until 3pm; after that, tomorrow from 1pm) or any day up to about six months ahead, by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
08
Same day? Yes, until 3pm.
Today, if you book by 3pm.
Book before 3pm and you can pick today: the earliest one-hour arrival is the hour after next (book at 10:20 and it's 12 to 1), if a partner's free. After 3pm, the earliest is 1pm tomorrow.
About Borehamwood
Borehamwood at a glance
Borehamwood sits in the WD6 postcode area, with Elstree & Borehamwood station and the small retail park just off the town centre, and Radlett a short hop away to the north-east. Van & Driver is preparing to launch here, bringing together van with driver and man and van services for people moving house, clearing furniture or shifting items across town. Once live, the site will let customers in Borehamwood arrange a fixed-price booking for moves ranging from a single item delivery to a full van load, whether that's a move within the town itself or a trip out to neighbouring Radlett. The plan covers the sort of everyday needs that come up in a town this size: student removals around the start and end of term, furniture delivery for new arrivals, storage moves to local self-storage sites, and tip runs for those clearing out a garage or garden. Commercial courier work and marketplace deliveries are also part of the offering, alongside next-day van hire for anyone who needs something moved at short notice. Borehamwood's position near Radlett, Bushey and Barnet means many moves booked here will involve short trips beyond the town boundary, and the fixed pricing model is designed to make those journeys straightforward to plan for. Local partner drivers are not yet confirmed for Borehamwood, but the page will be updated as soon as booking opens.
Borehamwood had 39,760 people at the 2021 Census. Furniture and flat-pack from Borehamwood Shopping Park, The Spires Shopping Centre and The Broadwalk Shopping Centre is a common single-item run. The council's nearest recycling centre is Elstree Recycling Centre, 1.9 miles away; a tip run with us goes to a licensed recycling centre, with the disposal in the price.
