Van & Driver is getting ready to launch its Furniture Delivery service here, covering sofas and armchairs, beds and mattresses, wardrobes and drawers, tables and chairs, with collection and delivery, blankets and straps, and one or two people to handle the lift, all for a fixed price agreed before the job starts. Once the service is live, bookings will run not just around the city itself but out to nearby Lewes, roughly five miles away, where a fixed-price trip is already mapped out alongside the local runs. For now, the town is still being set up on the platform, so a van cannot yet be booked here, but the groundwork covering the routes from Moulsecoomb and London Road stations out towards the South Downs, and the awkward parking around the seafront and student halls near Falmer, is already being put in place ahead of local drivers coming on board. When the service opens, the aim is to make it straightforward to move heavy items across Brighton and Hove without the hassle of vans, ramps or parking permits falling to the customer.
