Man with a van in Exeter: what it costs

How it works round here.

Exeter, Devon • Man and Van

Exeter's Wonford Road sits close enough to the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital that removals here often have to work around permit parking and a tight turn onto Barrack Road, which is why loads across the EX2 and EX4 districts need a driver who knows which side streets actually give access.

Van & Driver is preparing to launch its Man with a Van service in Exeter, covering moves for sofas, beds, wardrobes and appliances as well as smaller boxes, bags and garden or DIY items, right through to routes out towards Crediton and Exmouth. Every booking will include one or two people to handle loading and unloading, blankets and straps to keep furniture protected, and a fixed price agreed before the job starts, so there's no guessing at the end of a long carry down from St Luke's Campus or across town from Haven Banks. The service isn't live in Exeter yet, but the plan is to bring in local partner drivers who understand the city's mix of narrow residential roads, student housing near the university buildings, and the recycling centre's permit-only rules for vans. Once it launches, anyone moving within Exeter itself, or further out to Crediton, Exmouth or Dawlish, will be able to book ahead knowing what the job will cost and what's included, without needing to work out logistics themselves.

Questions people ask in Exeter

Do you cover Crediton, Exmouth and Dawlish too?+

Yes. Prices from Exeter to Crediton (7.7 miles) start at £55; every nearby town has its own page with local prices.

How much is a man and van in Exeter?+

A man and a van for one item within Exeter is £55, a small load £69, a medium load £139 and a full load £349. Fixed when you book.

Do you do man with a van hire by the hour in Exeter?+

No. We price by the job, not the hour: by how much there is and the miles, fixed when you book, so it doesn’t go up if loading takes longer. Within Exeter that’s £55 for one item and £69 for a small load.

Does a man and van include help carrying?+

Yes. The driver loads and unloads with you. For heavy or bulky items such as sofas, wardrobes and fridge freezers, choose two people when you book.

Do you do tip runs in Exeter?+

Yes: single items from £70, loads from £99 (Mini) to £519 (full load), and house clearances from £599. Disposal at a licensed recycling centre is included, with a waste transfer note, and there's no charge for the distance.

Will two people come?+

When the job needs them (a sofa, a wardrobe, a fridge, or a medium load and up) two people come, and that's already in the price. We decide it from what you're moving; there's nothing to choose or pay extra for.

Is the price fixed?+

Yes. You see the whole price before you book and that's what you pay: no hourly rate, and nothing added on the day for stairs, waiting or a heavy sofa, unless what you're moving changes.

People ask

What people in Exeter type into Google, answered.

Can you dismantle a bed in Exeter?+

Taking furniture apart isn't something we price for. Put it in the dismantling notes on your booking page (say the wardrobe needs Allen keys, or the bed's already down) so the driver comes ready. Ask us on WhatsApp.

Do you bring blankets and straps?+

Yes, on every job, at no extra cost. Your things are strapped in before the van moves.

Can you move just one thing in Exeter?+

Yes. A single item within Exeter is from £55, an armchair or a washing machine, say; a sofa on its own is a little more, by size.

Do you go outside Exeter?+

Yes, anywhere in England; the price includes the miles. A single item from Exeter to Crediton starts at £55.

Can I give the driver a gate code or directions?+

Yes. Add them to the access notes on your booking page. Only your driver sees them, on the day.

Can I book a man and van for tomorrow in Exeter?+

Yes, if a partner's free: you can book today until 3pm or any day after, and the days you can pick are the days someone can do it.
