Your van and driver in Long Ashton
How it works, what it costs and who turns up.
01
What a van and driver is
A van, a driver, a fixed price – and no bidding.
A van and driver is the middle ground between hiring a van yourself and booking a removals firm.
02
Van and driver versus man and van
Same idea, better promise.
"Man and van" is what people search for; it usually means one person with their own van, quoted on the phone, paid in cash, and you hope they turn up.
03
What fits in each van
We measure in wheelie bins. One bin's worth is about eight bin bags.
Picture a wheelie bin. One bin's worth is a few boxes and bags. Two is a fridge or a washing machine with room to spare. Four is a room.
04
How the price works
Fixed prices, the same everywhere.
A move's price depends on how much is moving, not where you live. A wheelie bin's worth is £69 anywhere in England; a full load is £349 in Salisbury, Sheffield or Southend.
05
Who turns up
Checked, insured, rated – and paid properly.
Every driver is an independent partner who has shown us their licence, their hire-and-reward insurance, goods-in-transit and public liability cover, and their right to work, before they're offered a single job.
06
Lifting, stairs and awkward things
Two people when the job needs them, at no extra cost.
We decide from what you're moving: a sofa, a wardrobe, a fridge, or a medium load and up gets two people, and that's already in the price. There's nothing to choose and nothing extra to pay.
07
Booking, changing and cancelling
Two minutes to book. Change it yourself up to 48 hours before.
Book online for today (until 3pm; after that, tomorrow from 1pm) or any day up to about six months ahead, by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
08
Same day? Yes, until 3pm.
Today, if you book by 3pm.
Book before 3pm and you can pick today: the earliest one-hour arrival is the hour after next (book at 10:20 and it's 12 to 1), if a partner's free. After 3pm, the earliest is 1pm tomorrow.
About Long Ashton
Long Ashton at a glance
Long Ashton sits in the BS41 postcode area on the edge of Bristol, close enough that UWE's Bower Ashton Campus and the University of Bristol both fall within a couple of miles of the centre, making it a regular spot for student moves and furniture drop-offs alongside the usual household removals. Van & Driver is preparing to launch here, bringing together van with driver and man and van services for residents who need help with house removals, tip runs, storage moves or next-day deliveries. Once live, the marketplace will connect people in Long Ashton with local partner drivers covering routes into Bristol itself, as well as further afield to Nailsea and Portishead, all at a fixed price agreed before the move begins rather than anything calculated on the day. Whether it's a single item heading to a storage unit near Winterstoke Road or a full van load for a house move, the aim is to make booking straightforward once the service goes live in the area. For now, this page sets out what's coming: the range of services planned, the sort of moves Long Ashton households and students typically need help with, and the fixed prices that will apply for trips within the town and to nearby places once partner drivers are confirmed and bookings open.
Long Ashton had 5,184 people at the 2021 Census. Furniture and flat-pack from South Bristol Retail Park, Clifton Arcade and Clifton Down Shopping Centre is a common single-item run. The council's nearest recycling centre is Bristol Waste, 2.6 miles away; a tip run with us goes to a licensed recycling centre, with the disposal in the price.
