Your van and driver in Yate
How it works, what it costs and who turns up.
01
What a van and driver is
A van, a driver, a fixed price – and no bidding.
A van and driver is the middle ground between hiring a van yourself and booking a removals firm.
02
Van and driver versus man and van
Same idea, better promise.
"Man and van" is what people search for; it usually means one person with their own van, quoted on the phone, paid in cash, and you hope they turn up.
03
What fits in each van
We measure in wheelie bins. One bin's worth is about eight bin bags.
Picture a wheelie bin. One bin's worth is a few boxes and bags. Two is a fridge or a washing machine with room to spare. Four is a room.
04
How the price works
Fixed prices, the same everywhere.
A move's price depends on how much is moving, not where you live. A wheelie bin's worth is £69 anywhere in England; a full load is £349 in Salisbury, Sheffield or Southend.
05
Who turns up
Checked, insured, rated – and paid properly.
Every driver is an independent partner who has shown us their licence, their hire-and-reward insurance, goods-in-transit and public liability cover, and their right to work, before they're offered a single job.
06
Lifting, stairs and awkward things
Two people when the job needs them, at no extra cost.
We decide from what you're moving: a sofa, a wardrobe, a fridge, or a medium load and up gets two people, and that's already in the price. There's nothing to choose and nothing extra to pay.
07
Booking, changing and cancelling
Two minutes to book. Change it yourself up to 48 hours before.
Book online for today (until 3pm; after that, tomorrow from 1pm) or any day up to about six months ahead, by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
08
Same day? Yes, until 3pm.
Today, if you book by 3pm.
Book before 3pm and you can pick today: the earliest one-hour arrival is the hour after next (book at 10:20 and it's 12 to 1), if a partner's free. After 3pm, the earliest is 1pm tomorrow.
About Yate
Yate at a glance
Just off Collett Way, the Yate Sort It Recycling Centre sits barely four hundred yards from the town centre, which tells you something about how compact Yate is to get around. This BS37 town in South Gloucestershire, close to Chipping Sodbury a mile and a half away, is the kind of place where a van with a driver can be at your door and on to the next move without much of a trek. Van & Driver works here as a marketplace: you book a van with a driver at a fixed price, and the move itself is carried out by a local partner driver. Whether you're clearing out a flat near Yate Shopping Centre, moving between here and Frampton Cotterell and Winterbourne, or need help getting furniture across to Bradley Stoke, the price is set before you book, so there's no haggling and no surprises. The service covers the things people in Yate actually need — man with a van work, full house removals, student moves, tip runs to a licensed recycling centre, next-day van hire, and deliveries for storage or commercial purposes. It's built for a town like this: near enough to Bristol's edges to make longer trips straightforward, but local enough that a single item collection or a half-van move within Yate itself is just as easy to arrange.
Yate had 28,352 people at the 2021 Census. Furniture and flat-pack from Yate Shopping Centre and Abbotswood Shopping Centre is a common single-item run. The council's nearest recycling centre is Yate Sort It Recycling Centre, 0.4 miles away; a tip run with us goes to a licensed recycling centre, with the disposal in the price.
