Your van and driver in Lydney
How it works, what it costs and who turns up.
01
What a van and driver is
A van, a driver, a fixed price – and no bidding.
A van and driver is the middle ground between hiring a van yourself and booking a removals firm.
02
Van and driver versus man and van
Same idea, better promise.
"Man and van" is what people search for; it usually means one person with their own van, quoted on the phone, paid in cash, and you hope they turn up.
03
What fits in each van
We measure in wheelie bins. One bin's worth is about eight bin bags.
Picture a wheelie bin. One bin's worth is a few boxes and bags. Two is a fridge or a washing machine with room to spare. Four is a room.
04
How the price works
Fixed prices, the same everywhere.
A move's price depends on how much is moving, not where you live. A wheelie bin's worth is £69 anywhere in England; a full load is £349 in Salisbury, Sheffield or Southend.
05
Who turns up
Checked, insured, rated – and paid properly.
Every driver is an independent partner who has shown us their licence, their hire-and-reward insurance, goods-in-transit and public liability cover, and their right to work, before they're offered a single job.
06
Lifting, stairs and awkward things
Two people when the job needs them, at no extra cost.
We decide from what you're moving: a sofa, a wardrobe, a fridge, or a medium load and up gets two people, and that's already in the price. There's nothing to choose and nothing extra to pay.
07
Booking, changing and cancelling
Two minutes to book. Change it yourself up to 48 hours before.
Book online for today (until 3pm; after that, tomorrow from 1pm) or any day up to about six months ahead, by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
08
Same day? Yes, until 3pm.
Today, if you book by 3pm.
Book before 3pm and you can pick today: the earliest one-hour arrival is the hour after next (book at 10:20 and it's 12 to 1), if a partner's free. After 3pm, the earliest is 1pm tomorrow.
About Lydney
Lydney at a glance
Lydney Space Station sits just a third of a mile from the town centre, a useful marker for anyone picturing where a van with driver or man and van move might start in this GL15 corner of Gloucestershire. Van & Driver is opening soon in Lydney, bringing fixed-price van and driver bookings to the town rather than leaving people to work out costs themselves. Once live, the service will cover the sort of moves that come up regularly here: house removals, furniture delivery, tip runs, next-day van work, storage moves, student removals, marketplace delivery and commercial courier trips, all at a set price agreed before the move starts rather than charged by the hour. Lydney's position in the Forest of Dean means many moves will stay local, but plenty will also head out towards Coleford, around six miles off, or further to Cam and Cinderford, both a little over seven miles away — all places already mapped into the pricing structure ahead of launch. With Lydney's own railway station less than a mile from the centre and storage options such as Old Dairy Storage a short drive out towards Cam, the town has the sort of layout that suits a fixed-price van service well: compact enough for quick local moves, but close enough to neighbouring towns for those slightly longer trips too. Once partner drivers are confirmed for the area, residents will be able to book directly through the site.
Lydney had 9,655 people at the 2021 Census. The council's nearest recycling centre is Yate Sort It Recycling Centre, 12.8 miles away; a tip run with us goes to a licensed recycling centre, with the disposal in the price.
