Your van and driver in Oxted
How it works, what it costs and who turns up.
01
What a van and driver is
A van, a driver, a fixed price – and no bidding.
A van and driver is the middle ground between hiring a van yourself and booking a removals firm.
02
Van and driver versus man and van
Same idea, better promise.
"Man and van" is what people search for; it usually means one person with their own van, quoted on the phone, paid in cash, and you hope they turn up.
03
What fits in each van
We measure in wheelie bins. One bin's worth is about eight bin bags.
Picture a wheelie bin. One bin's worth is a few boxes and bags. Two is a fridge or a washing machine with room to spare. Four is a room.
04
How the price works
Fixed prices, the same everywhere.
A move's price depends on how much is moving, not where you live. A wheelie bin's worth is £69 anywhere in England; a full load is £349 in Salisbury, Sheffield or Southend.
05
Who turns up
Checked, insured, rated – and paid properly.
Every driver is an independent partner who has shown us their licence, their hire-and-reward insurance, goods-in-transit and public liability cover, and their right to work, before they're offered a single job.
06
Lifting, stairs and awkward things
Two people when the job needs them, at no extra cost.
We decide from what you're moving: a sofa, a wardrobe, a fridge, or a medium load and up gets two people, and that's already in the price. There's nothing to choose and nothing extra to pay.
07
Booking, changing and cancelling
Two minutes to book. Change it yourself up to 48 hours before.
Book online for today (until 3pm; after that, tomorrow from 1pm) or any day up to about six months ahead, by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
08
Same day? Yes, until 3pm.
Today, if you book by 3pm.
Book before 3pm and you can pick today: the earliest one-hour arrival is the hour after next (book at 10:20 and it's 12 to 1), if a partner's free. After 3pm, the earliest is 1pm tomorrow.
About Oxted
Oxted at a glance
Oxted sits between two railway stations, with Hurst Green barely a quarter of a mile from the centre and Oxted station itself less than a mile away, making the RH8 postcode area an easy base for anyone shifting boxes, furniture or a full house move. Van & Driver is preparing to launch here, bringing fixed-price van with driver and man and van services to residents who need help getting items across town or out towards neighbouring Edenbridge and Caterham, both a short drive from the centre. Whether it's a single sofa going to Church Walk Shopping Centre or a full house removal heading further afield, the plan is to match customers with local partner drivers who know the roads around Oxted and the surrounding Surrey villages. Once live, the service will cover everything from tip runs to licensed recycling centres, through to student removals for those heading to or from nearby colleges, and commercial courier work for local businesses. Storage moves will also be part of the offering, useful for anyone using facilities such as Easistore in Edenbridge or Space2store over in Redhill. Fixed prices mean no surprises on the day, and the same team structure that works elsewhere will apply here: a marketplace connecting customers directly with vetted local drivers rather than a single in-house fleet. For now, Oxted residents can look forward to the service arriving soon, with full booking details to follow as coverage of the town is confirmed.
Oxted had 11,491 people at the 2021 Census. Furniture and flat-pack from Church Walk Shopping Centre is a common single-item run. The council's nearest recycling centre is Warlingham Community Recycling Centre, 4.7 miles away; a tip run with us goes to a licensed recycling centre, with the disposal in the price.
