Your van and driver in Tadworth and Epsom Downs
How it works, what it costs and who turns up.
01
What a van and driver is
A van, a driver, a fixed price – and no bidding.
A van and driver is the middle ground between hiring a van yourself and booking a removals firm.
02
Van and driver versus man and van
Same idea, better promise.
"Man and van" is what people search for; it usually means one person with their own van, quoted on the phone, paid in cash, and you hope they turn up.
03
What fits in each van
We measure in wheelie bins. One bin's worth is about eight bin bags.
Picture a wheelie bin. One bin's worth is a few boxes and bags. Two is a fridge or a washing machine with room to spare. Four is a room.
04
How the price works
Fixed prices, the same everywhere.
A move's price depends on how much is moving, not where you live. A wheelie bin's worth is £69 anywhere in England; a full load is £349 in Salisbury, Sheffield or Southend.
05
Who turns up
Checked, insured, rated – and paid properly.
Every driver is an independent partner who has shown us their licence, their hire-and-reward insurance, goods-in-transit and public liability cover, and their right to work, before they're offered a single job.
06
Lifting, stairs and awkward things
Two people when the job needs them, at no extra cost.
We decide from what you're moving: a sofa, a wardrobe, a fridge, or a medium load and up gets two people, and that's already in the price. There's nothing to choose and nothing extra to pay.
07
Booking, changing and cancelling
Two minutes to book. Change it yourself up to 48 hours before.
Book online for today (until 3pm; after that, tomorrow from 1pm) or any day up to about six months ahead, by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
08
Same day? Yes, until 3pm.
Today, if you book by 3pm.
Book before 3pm and you can pick today: the earliest one-hour arrival is the hour after next (book at 10:20 and it's 12 to 1), if a partner's free. After 3pm, the earliest is 1pm tomorrow.
About Tadworth and Epsom Downs
Tadworth and Epsom Downs at a glance
Tadworth and Epsom Downs sits right by Tattenham Corner station, with racecourse land shaping the KT20 postcode area and Banstead just a mile and a half up the road. It's a spread-out patch of Surrey where a van with a driver needs to cover everything from tight residential turns near the station to the open stretches around Epsom Downs itself, and Van & Driver is getting ready to bring fixed-price man and van cover to the area. We're not yet live for bookings here, so no move requests can be placed just yet, but we're setting things up so that local moves, whether that's a single item across town or a full house removal out towards Epsom or Ewell, will soon be handled by drivers who know these roads. Once running, the service will cover the practical side of moving house or clearing space, including tip runs, storage moves, furniture delivery and student removals, all at a fixed price agreed before the move starts rather than worked out by the hour. Tadworth and Epsom Downs residents dealing with the Epsom Community Recycling Centre's specific opening days, or needing something delivered to Banstead, Epsom or further afield, will be able to get a price and a van sorted without any guesswork. We'll update this page the moment cover in KT20 and the surrounding SM7 and KT18 districts goes live.
Tadworth and Epsom Downs had 27,095 people at the 2021 Census. Furniture and flat-pack from Ashley Centre, Spread Eagle Walk and The Swan Centre is a common single-item run. The council's nearest recycling centre is Recycling Center, 2.2 miles away; a tip run with us goes to a licensed recycling centre, with the disposal in the price.
